"Makin' It" in a Small Town
I'm feeling rather inspirational today. This is a blog post for all you entrepreneurs and dreamers out there that are really working to make it in their small town (or big town, it really doesn't matter where you are as long as you're out there workin').
SO the question is, how do you know when you've finally made it? I truly believe this can mean something different to each and every person that reads this blog; but to me, it's being brave and courageous enough to chase after something that you strongly desire; AND once it is in your reach, you give it all that you've got and you don't look back.
"Makin' it" is seeing a vacant office building in town and deciding that you're GOING to open up a boutique because that is what you've always wanted to do, and it is something that you've always passionate about. It's giving your all as a stay-at-home parent, working to raise your kids to be the best they can be because YOUR goal has always been to be a great parent. It is rising up, despite the odds being stacked against you, and doing whatever it is that lights a fire deep down.
I'm from a small town in Texas. SUPER small. It's called Covington and its population, last time I checked, was 269. It has a school, gas station, a drive-thru beer barn and roughly 7 churches. I left my hometown to move to yet another small town in Wisconsin called Siren. Although this town is a little bigger than Covington, it still has ALL the makings of a state-of-the-art small town. The beauty is that it is FULL of entrepreneurs that are out here doing anything and everything in their power to make it. Now, this may be just because I worked with quite a few of you during my time with The Sentinel, but I have never met a more determined and ambitious group of people going above and beyond to successful.
So, this one is for you.
Here's to all the Ma and Pa shops that are putting in the hours and going the extra mile to chase your dreams. The fact that I have the ability to write this blog right now [and get paid for it!] is all because of a woman with a dream to help others and create jobs in Burnett County. [Thanks Emily, you're the b-e-s-t]
This job allows me to chase after my dreams while helping others in the community. I LOVE building genuine relationships with others. I've always wanted to find a career that allows me to help others while creating meaningful relationships along the way. People are my passion and I am so incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to work with you guys each and every day. I want to make a difference in this community and be a light to others in any way possible. This job has given me the opportunity to do just that.
One thing I've never understood is that as kids we were constantly told to, "Chase after your dreams!" So why is it at as adults, we tell each other to stop being such dreamers?? Why is it considered foolish or derogatory to dream?
My hope...
Is that I never understand why people give up on their dreams. I hope there is always a childlike spirit instilled deep down inside of me that keeps me driving forward and striving to be better than I was yesterday.
Lastly, I hope and pray the same for you. Find what it is that you love to do and go for it. Don't let anybody look down on you for chasing your dreams. Put action behind your words, and that's when you'll start seeing a profound change in your life.
