Madsen Pest Management

Long-term partnership for long-term growth

Madsen Pest Management is a growing pest control company with a strong reputation and loyal customer base. Like many service-based small businesses, early growth was fueled almost entirely by referrals – effective, but limiting.

Marketing Challenges

Madsen came to North of Eight with a strong reputation and a growing business, but not the marketing structure needed to support long-term growth.

  • Marketing lacked structure and consistency
  • Facebook posts were boosted without a clear strategy
  • Digital advertising efforts stalled after account access issues
  • Growth relied almost entirely on word-of-mouth referrals

The team reached a crossroads: referrals were strong, but they needed a scalable way to reach new customers online, especially those who didn’t already know the brand.

Lack of Consistency & Structure

Before partnering with North of Eight, marketing was one of many responsibilities the Madsen team tried to manage internally. Posts were shared and boosted when time allowed, but there was no clear strategy, seasonal plan, or consistent direction behind the effort.

Website Performance

While the website had a look the team liked, it was not performing the way it needed to. Speed, functionality, mobile experience, and search visibility were all limiting the site’s ability to attract and convert new customers.

Limited Online Visibility

Without a focused SEO strategy, Madsen was missing opportunities to show up for high-value pest control searches. That made it harder to reach potential customers who were actively looking for services online.

Our Approach

North of Eight stepped in not just as a vendor, but as a strategic partner. Rather than applying generic tactics, our team took time to understand the pest control industry, Madsen’s services, and their seasonal needs, ensuring marketing showed up at the right time, with the right message.

Step 1

Website Refresh & Rebuild

North of Eight rebuilt the website from the ground up, keeping the original look while improving speed, functionality, mobile usability, and overall user experience.

Step 2

SEO Strategy and Content Optimization

Our team developed a focused SEO plan that included keyword research, technical improvements, metadata updates, and optimized content to improve rankings and bring in more qualified traffic.

Step 3

Social Media Support with Content Creation

We helped Madsen shape a fun, quirky TikTok presence that matched their brand personality. Using field footage and pest-related content, the account quickly became a strong awareness and engagement channel.

Step 4

Paid Campaign Management

High-performing content was repurposed into paid campaigns, including hiring ads targeted to Burnett County and surrounding areas. This helped Madsen extend reach while keeping costs efficient. Platforms included social, paid search and streaming services.

Step 5

Ongoing Strategic Partnership

Beyond execution, North of Eight became an ongoing brainstorming and strategy partner. Instead of guessing what to market next, Madsen had a proactive roadmap aligned with seasonal demand and business goals. When it came time for Madsen to hire in house - we were their biggest champions through the transition.

Results & Impact

The results were strong across multiple channels. Organic traffic increased by 112% within six months, and the website began ranking on page one for more than 15 high-value keywords. Bounce rate dropped by 27%, showing that visitors were finding a better experience once they landed on the site.

On TikTok, the new account grew from zero to more than 9,132 followers, generating 5.9 million views, 83,200 likes, and more than 7,400 comments. Paid social campaigns also delivered efficient results, with a $280 hiring campaign producing 654 link clicks, 13,376 reach, 39,814 impressions, and a $0.43 cost per click. At least one new hire came directly from that effort.

As the partnership grew, Madsen moved from a business driven almost entirely by referrals to one supported by a more predictable digital presence. Today, 32% of new customers come from digital and print channels, including Google, Facebook, billboards, and the website.
